    It’s that time of year again! The robins are here, the weather is warming and the days feel so much longer. What a winter we’ve had. But really, isn’t feeling the seasons change part of the beauty of living in this part of the world? Well get ready! It’s already time to plan for a great summer. It’ll be here before you can blink. In this issue you will find dozens of amazing places that offer wonderful opportunities for your child to learn, have fun and make life-long friends. It’s our annual Summer Camps Directory.

    If your child longs for the stage, desires to become a veterinarian, or wants an all-around adventure you’ll find something in these pages that will fit the bill. Please tell these camps that you saw them in Mother & Child Reunion!

    Action Martial Arts. Blue Springs, Mo. Kick into action this spring and summer with their martial art programs. Week long summer camps teach students to gain self control, physical and mental disciplines, flexibility and confidence with a positive attitude. They teach hand and foot techniques, the art of Tae Kwon Do, falling, ground work, personal safety and sparring, guest speakers and alot more. Contact: 816-224-4105.

    American Rhythm. Kansas City, Mo. They are offering “Those Good Ole’ Days” performance camp from June 28 to July 1 in Independence. Campers, no matter experience, will enjoy a high energy fun camp, ending with a performance paying tribute to America. Early Bird Registration by May 15th. Cost: $65/ages 5-7, $150/ages 8-19.     Blue Valley Soccer Club. Overland Park, Ks. They are a 501 © (3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing soccer programming for youth players in and around the Kansas City Metro area.     CartoonWorks. Kansas City, Mo. Offers one-week camps for ages 8 through high school. Classes are geared for the young child who simply loves to draw to the older student considering a creative career. Ron Wheeler teaches the basics of cartooning, sculpting with clay and creating a comic strip. Audrey Wheeler’s camp includes designing T-shirts, jewelry, plus fun arts and crafts.     Christian Youth Theater. Kansas City, Mo. Join them as they celebrate 10 years in KC. Summer camps include Dora and Diego (ages 4-5), Disney on Broadway (ages 5-12), and Xtreme Theater (ages 10 - 14) in half day or full day camps. Overnight camps include Selections From All Shook Up for middle school students and West Side Story for high school students. Camps offered June - July at locations throughout the metropolitan area.     Clay-Platte Montessori School. Kansas City, Mo. Offers a variety of summer camps for children ages 5 – 12. The school will also offer hands-on math camp, hands-on science camp, as well as etiquette, theater, interior design and cooking camps. Contact: cpchmontessori@kc.rr.com or 816-741-6940.

    Creative Arts Academy. Gladstone, Mo. Do something extraordinary this summer. Join the fun at Creative Arts Academy’s Summer Fun Day Camps. Activities include gymnastics, tumbling, trampoline, hip hop, swimming, outdoor sports, crafts, games and tons of fun. Camps are offered weekly June 28th through July 30th from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm for children ages 5 through teens. Extended hours are available for working parents. Summer preschool is also available at CAA for children ages 3 to 5. Creative Arts Academy is an amazing kid’s campus that sits on over 7 acres in the northland, very convenient to downtown.     Creative World School. Summer programs include Summer Adventurers tailored for preschool age children and our Summer Camp for school age children. They explore exciting themes through arts and crafts, music and drama, science and nature and organized games. They will take exciting special interest field trips in addition to regular weekly trips that include: swimming, bowling, skating, putt-putt golf and much more.     Dave’s Gymnastics Factory. Lee’s Summit, Mo. DGF Summer Day Camp is for children ages 5–11. Each day allows the children 2 swim times in a heated pool, play time in the gym, arts & crafts, outdoor and indoor play. Swim class instruction, gymnastics, and tumbling classes are available.     Emerald City. Overland Park, Ks. Offering fun, activity filled camps this summer. There are morning or afternoon sessions, or the option to do both. These one week (Mon-Fri) camps include: developing gymnastics skills on our men’s and women’s Olympic apparatus, climbing our giant indoor rockwall, play time, games and arts & crafts.     GAGE. Blue Springs, Mo. Offers Bump City Kid Camp, a great alternative to the ordinary child care. Participants are encouraged to be active and channel their energies to activities that are physically challenging, educationally stimulating and fun. A wide variety of activities include indoor playland, indoor rock climbing, gymnastics, swimming, dance, indoor ropes course, interactive inflatables, arts & crafts, sports basics, and much more.     Gymboree. Lee’s Summit, Mo. Calling all global adventurers that love exploring, painting, and playing sports. Children ages 3 to 5 years will stretch and develop cognitive, gross motor, and fine motor skills. Two camps are offered and either t-ball or soccer will be explored during each camp in combination with global adventures and art exploration. T-ball Explorers offered July 13th–15th.     Helping Hands Montessori School. Gladstone, Mo. Children will develop social skills, self-respect, emotional awareness, independence and respect for others.     Ibsen Dance Theatre. Gladstone, Mo. Summer Theatre Camps for Kids is an intense two week camp experience in the performing arts. The students will study and work directly under the guidance of instructors with degrees in theatre and education. Campers will attend classes in make-up, acting , mime, improvisation , stage movement, oral interpretation, dance, voice and creative dramatics.     Johnson County Park & Recreation District. Ks. Get your child up, out and about this summer. From Just for Fun to Outdoor Discovery, they offer kids of all ages and interests over 30 fun-filled and professionally programmed and supervised camps to choose from. Choices include recreation, sports, arts and crafts, science, nature and environment, music, theater, dance, leadership development, and special needs.     The Children’s Village. Lee’s Summit, Mo. An intergenerational child development program located on the campus of John Knox Village. Is offering Welcome to the Jungle Summer Camp for children ages 5 to 12. Campers led by degreed teachers will experience fun-filled adventures through activities and field trips.     Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care. Kansas City, MO. For families who are grieving, Camp Carousel offers this free, weekend camp Sept. 24–26, 2010. They provide a comfortable environment with the support of professionals, trained volunteers and the opportunity to spend time with others who have experienced similar losses. They offer fun, recreational activities and structured, creative opportunities to foster sharing and healing. Grieving families with children ages 6 through 16 who have experienced a loss of a parent, child, grandparent or other immediate family member at least six months prior to camp are invited to attend.     Kansas City Ballet School. Kansas City, Mo., and Prairie Village, Kan. KCBS Summer Programs begin June 7 for ages 3-21. The downtown campus provides serious ballet students one of the best summer intensives in the country. KCB Artistic staff and School faculty combine to oversee a highly concentrated curriculum.     Kidz Kabana. Lee’s Summit, Mo. This Summer Program is perfect for children ages 5-12 that need full time care and those who may just need to get out of the house. Program includes semiweekly field trips to various places around the metro including the Movie Theater and the Pool. Weekly activities such as gymnastics and kung fu classes, magic shows, open gym, and xtreme games will keep your child more than just entertained.     Kindermusik with Denise Revo. Lees Summit, MO. Summer Music Camps for children ages birth and up include music, movement, singing, playing instruments and more! Learn new songs, lullabies, and ways to say “I love you” in Peek A Boo, I Love You! for newborns to 20 months. Splash will delight 1 1/2 to 3 1/2 year olds with sounds, movements, and music of all things wet and bubbly. Jazz Kitchen for 3 1/2 to 6 year olds will take jazz music, sounds and instruments into the kitchen. Blast Off with Piano is a fabulously fun introduction to piano for 6 to 9 year olds.     Lee’s Summit Community Christian School. Lee’s Summit, Mo. Camp Eagle Summit is a fun 12-week Christian summer day camp (May 24 - August 13). Before and after care are available at no extra charge. Outings include Summit Waves (3x weekly), Mid-Continent Library (weekly), CoCo Keys, Science City, Eastglen Theatre, KC Zoo, Coterie Theatre, Kaleidoscope, ice skating, and more.     Mercury Gymnastics. Kansas City, Mo. Mercury will also be hosting 5 camps this summer. Camps will be from 1p.m. –4 p.m., Monday thru Thursday and include a snack, craft and a lot of fun. Cost: $80/per camp. Fit n’ Fun Fridays provides an energetic child with 6 hours of fun (9 a.m. –3 p.m.) in their 25,000 sq. ft facility. Each week there will be different theme. The day will consist of crafts, snacks and plenty of time to run! Your child must be 3 years of age and potty trained to attend. The cost is $40 on day of camp or $35 prior.     Montessori Day School of Blue Springs. Blue Springs, Mo. Offering a different theme each week such as: Gardening, Sports, Cooking, Independence Day, Insects, Water Fun, and Artists and Composers.     The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Kansas City, Mo. Make it an all American summer with hands-on classes for ages 3 to 18.     North Kansas City Community Center. North Kansas City, Mo. Get connected to summer fun with summer fun camps. Ages 5-14, will enjoy daily activities that are designed to encourage creativity and use of imagination.     Parkville Children’s Cottage Montessori School. Parkville, Mo. Offering one or six weeks theme camps such as gardening, art, pioneer days, French language, science and cooking.     Ronda’s Dance & Tumble Cheer Center. Blue Springs, Mo. Offering recreational and competitive dance, cheer, and acrobatic gymnastic classes. Dance classes include beginner and advanced combo, ballet, lyrical, hip-hop, tap, and jazz. Acrobatic gymnastic classes are available for beginners through national elite.     The Heart of America Shakespeare Festival. Metro area. amp Shakespeare is a unique and fun summer arts adventure for young people ranging in age from 5 – 18. It’s also an educational (just don’t tell the kids!) introduction to the works of Shakespeare and theatre taught by professional teaching artists. Each camp offers students performance, games and crafts. Camp dates vary per location. One, two and three week camps available, June 7 – July 30.     Spectrum Station. Kansas City, Mo. Bowling, Coterie Theatre, Skating, KC Zoo, Gymnastics, Kaleidescope, and so much more await school-age children at Spectrum Station in the summer. Spectrum Station’s facility offers a state of the art facility with plenty of space for schoolagers to explore, design, act, experiment and more. The playgrounds are large, featuring swings, a basketball court, and two age appropriate playscapes. The school-age program lead teachers are degreed professionals with many years of experience.     Steppin’ Out - The Studio. Lee’s Summit, Mo. They are offering a six-week summer session in dance, vocal, cheer, and tumbling. A great way to introduce first time dancers to the studio. Contact: 816-525-7464.

    Theatre of the Imagination. Overland Park, Ks. They offer drama camps spoofing Clone, Hannah, HSM, Superheroes, Twilight and more. One and two-week camps run Mondays-Fridays, June 1-Aug. 13 at 6100 W. 127th and are open Pre-K to 10th grades. Half-day or full-day, (8am-6pm). Cost: $59/week half day, $99/week full day specials.     YMCA Summer Camps. Various locations. YMCA of Greater Kansas City offers numerous summer camps, with areas of interest including outdoor activities, sports, swimming, field trips, nature and science activities, crafts and educational activities.
